Welcome to McCabinet’s Designer Spotlight. Here, you will have the opportunity to get to know one of our designers better – from their career backgrounds and design advice to their favorite hobbies – all in their own words!
This month, we meet McCabinet Designer Brittany Boyer!
How did you get started in the cabinet industry?
I’ve always been a naturally creative person but discovered my passion for home design when my husband and I purchased a ‘fixer upper’ house. I realized that this God-given gift of transforming spaces that’s always been inside of me! Months later, I knew I had to make a career change and decided to pursue this dream. So, I took a huge, scary leap of faith in doing that. I learned all that I could prior to making that transition and began teaching myself how to use 2020 Design (the software that designers use to create floor plans, 3-D images, etc. of spaces their working on)! McCabinet came along my path & took a shot on me… the rest is history!
What is your favorite room in the house to design and why?
Definitely the kitchen. There’s a quote out there that says, “It’s almost not worth calling it kitchen anymore – it’s a living room that you can cook in.” I love creating this space the most out of any room because it truly is the heart of the home. Creating a functional place to cook, a casual place for kids to do homework at the kitchen island, and adding fun storage solutions to help each family stay organized is fun and challenging all in one! It is the most rewarding feeling when I am able to conjure up something unique for a family to be able to do all of the things they do in the kitchen.
What was your favorite project from 2019?
I’m combining these questions 🙂 A favorite in 2019 was a job that Tricia, Steve, and I worked on with one of my favorite contractors – Silver Palm Developers Inc. The whole home remodel was pleasant to work on because of the team – The contractor, the customer and every party involved worked hard to completely transform a space and do it with joy and intention. One of the most custom things on the job was a hidden laundry room. Huge, sliding cabinet doors in the kitchen pulled back opening up the laundry room space! When the doors are closed, you don’t even know a laundry area is behind it!
What’s your favorite part of working at McCabinet?
Work-wise, I love that we have so many different products to offer! For example, we have nine different cabinet lines. Because of this, we are truly able to accommodate any customer based on their wants and needs. It makes my job doable no matter what my customer’s budget is like! Environment wise, I love that we are like a family here. All of us want the best for one another, and we are all willing to help.
Favorite design feature to incorporate into people’s spaces?
I am obsessed with appliance garage wall cabinets. These are the wall cabinets you see sitting on a countertop hiding away useful things that need to be on the countertop but are better off not seen. I often use these cabinets in the bathroom as well. It is a great place to hide away those items that are easiest kept on a countertop – toothbrush, electric toothbrush charger, hair spray, etc.
1. Favorite color?
I couldn’t choose… All colors light, airy, or pastel 🙂
2. Favorite food?
Bread – Like good, hefty, freshly baked Italian bread!
3. Most memorable vacation ever? Photo encouraged!
Hard to choose…either the surprise cruise I took my husband on for our anniversary (this was hands down the best surprise I could ever possibly pull off!) OR the surprise birthday trip to Asheville for one of my closest friends!
4. Favorite person in the world?
My favorite person in the world is definitely my husband. He brings joy everywhere he goes & is so fun to be around. He’s my best friend.
5. Have any pets?
Yes! We have the cutest dog in the history of all dogs, Claire! She is a Morkie (Maltese-Yorkie). She is a momma’s girl, hands down. She loves to cuddle, go for walks, and eat minty Dentastix.
6. Favorite design feature of your current home?
Currently, my neatly collaged photo wall is my favorite! However, in a few weeks, I am going to be building a built-in fireplace in my living room. A fireplace insert will be at the bottom and a niche for the TV will be above the mantel. This is going to be my new favorite for sure!
