Welcome to the August edition of McCabinet’s Designer Spotlight.  This month, we had the opportunity to sit down with designer Steve Roehm, who has been with McCabinet for almost five years.

1.     What is your favorite part about design work?

My favorite part about design work is creating functional spaces and putting smiles on faces!  I love revisiting work I’ve done and seeing how happy homeowners are with their updated spaces.

2. Did you always want to be a designer?

I didn’t want to be a designer, I wanted to build homes.  As a kid, my cousin and I would cut up boxes and glue them together in different configurations to “design” houses.

3. How did you end up working for McCabinet?

I was initially hired as a marketing intern, but quickly took an interest in design.  I spent some time working on closet design, learning the ins and outs of the trade.  Not long after, I was offered a job at McCabinet and started taking on all the jobs that included closet design.  Four years later, I’m happy to say I’m confident designing any room in the house… from Murphy beds to outdoor kitchens, if you can dream it, I can do it!

4. What is your favorite part of the day?

I’m a huge fan of lunch.  Not only because I love a good meal, but because it gives me a chance to step away and recharge.  It can be easy to get caught up in a design and overthink or overanalyze.  Stepping away for a moment and coming back often gives me a fresh outlook – I can find solutions to problems I didn’t originally see.

5. What is your favorite room to design and why?

I love designing every room.  I can conquer any design.  Every job challenges me and makes me think of new solutions for client’s problems.

LIGHTNING ROUND

1.     Coffee or tea?

Coffee is essential.  I love and need my coffee.

2. Favorite local hangout?

I grew up near the water and love boating and fishing.  Over the years, my friends and I have joined a ton of fishing tournaments.  I guess you could say my favorite local hangout is on the boat!

3. What are you looking forward to most when quarantine ends?

I’m really looking forward to spending time with my family.  I have a huge family and they’re all so important to me.  Half of my family lives in Ohio, so I’ve really been missing them.
