Meet the McCabinet Designer: Wayne Smith
We’re incredibly happy to formally introduce you to a talented new designer to join our award-winning cabinet design team. Keep reading to learn a little more about Wayne and help us welcome him to McCabinet.
Where were you born and raised?
Born in San Diego, raised in the Tarpon Springs/Palm Harbor area.
How did you get started in the industry?
My family started their custom closet company in 1983. I worked for my family’s’ closet business in summers during school, then full time since 2005.
What is your favorite part about design work?
Creating functional and beautiful aesthetic closets and storage areas that bring the customers visions to life, providing the customer a place for everything.
Which room is your favorite to design?
Master closets!
Describe a project you’ve done that you are most proud of and why?
A floor to ceiling master closet with a 12 foot ceiling, complete with island, rolling ladder, flip up glass doors and integrated lighting for a new home build. It was a great design challenge and the final result was beautiful.
What is your favorite part of your job?
I would say the process of bringing a great design from paper to reality with new and unique ideas, and an elated customer who falls in love with the finished result.
What is your personal design style?
Contemporary and transitional looks tend to be my favorite, with function and use of the space that meets the customers needs being a priority.
What are some design elements you love when customers add-in?
Lighting in a closet can really take it to that next level, along with other decorative elements with door, drawer, and molding styles. Accessories today can also really make an impact on a closet’s functionality.
Do you have any hidden talents?
None I’m aware of.
Do you have any pets?
One very hyper red Labrador, Sienna.
What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?
Spending time with my wife and two daughters, outdoor activities such as boating/fishing/hiking, watching movies, and watching professional sports.

Ocean.

Hot.

Sweet.

Introvert, laid back personality.

Three rooker sandbar, or my house if that counts?
Favorite food?
Mom’s chicken and dumplings, pizza is a close second.
Favorite color?
Blue.
Favorite sport or team?
A tie between football and hockey. Bucs and Lightning.
